Gitxsan Guardians
Field Operations Team – 2025 Field Season
Supporting the Wilps ‘Wii K’aax Territorial Stewardship Initiative and Indigenous Protected Area (IPA)
Location:
Gitxsan Lax’yip and Wilps ‘Wii K’aax Lax’yip: Xsu Wii Ax, An Gil Galanos, and Miin Anhl Gii
About the Initiative:
Torchlight Enterprises, through our Gitxsan Guardians program, is honoured to support Wilps ‘Wii K’aax Lax Gibuu Kali Axs Gitxsan (Raven House of the Wolf Clan Along Gitxsan Rivers) with the implementation of their Territorial Stewardship Initiative and Indigenous Protected Area (IPA). Grounded in Gitxsan Ayook (Gitxsan law) and guided by Gwalx Yee’insxw (carrying forward our responsibilities in a good way) this initiative advances Indigenous-led governance, ecological protection, and cultural revitalization across more than 214,000 hectares of Gitxsan lands.

As we begin our 2025 field season, we are assembling a dedicated Seasonal Field Operations Team to carry out critical in-field and remote camp work: from infrastructure and safety to ecological monitoring and cultural stewardship. We are seeking skilled and committed individuals to walk with us and help weave the threads of responsibility, care, stewardship, and culture into the fabric of our work on the Lax’yip.

In addition to supporting Wilps ‘Wii K’aax, the Gitxsan Guardians program also offers capacity to other Gitxsan Huwilp and aligned organizations seeking land-based support, cultural monitoring, ecological research, or training grounded in Gitxsan law. Our goal is to build a network of responsibility and reciprocity that strengthens the health of the Lax’yip and the governance systems that care for it.
